Experience a true taste of Germany here in Mount Dora at the Barvarian Haus. In 2012, husband and wife team, Patricia Jerrell and Achim Weyer, moved their Barvarian restaurant from Winter Garden to Mt. Dora, bring an authentic Barvarian experience the moment you walk in the door.
The Barvarian Haus is located in a quaint stand alone building at 433 North Alexader Street, you immediately feel the unique atmosphere as you approach the open-air porch. The classic German dishes Bratwurst Brezenbautte, Wiener Schnizel, and Apfelstrudel (apple strudel) just scratch the surface of their vast menu and selection of German beers and wines.
“Everything is made-from-scratch. I begin to pound the schnitzel when the order comes in” explains Achim. Each dish is made fresh in a small kitchen, not reheated or sitting in a warmer. As a dining experience, visitors need to leave sufficient time to have their meal created. “Order a beer, an appetizer, and enjoy the experience” replies Achim.
In such a rushed world, there is something special that home cooking has to offers. That is what Achim and Patricia want their guests to enjoy from their traditional family dishes. “My family is German and I have been many times and it felt like I was back in Germany.” commented a customer.
In 2016, the Orlando Sentinel 18th Foodie Award honored the Barvarian Haus as runner-up in the German category. These highly sought after annual awards are based on reader’s favorite places to eat and drink in Central Florida.
Bavarian Haus is open Tuesday – Thursday 11am-9pm, Friday & Saturday 11am-10pm and Sunday 11am-4pm. Closed on Monday. Note that the kitchen closes 30 minutes prior to closing. On Saturday nights enjoy live German music.
